about Evan

Evan Wang is an aspiring young cellist who strives to build connections through music. Since choosing cello to be his first music instrument at the age of six, Evan has embarked on his journey of learning and growing with music. Evan’s love of cello not only brings joy and comfort for himself and people around him, it has also given him opportunities to meet new friends and tour internationally to broaden his worldview.

For over 10 years, Evan has studied under several private teachers in the New Year area. Besides being an active member of his school music community, leading the cello section of his school orchestras, Evan was also a member of the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Nassau County for five years. He performed with the group at prestigious venues including the Carnegie Hall and toured the South of France in the Summer of 2024. Under the guidance of his current cello teacher, Mr. Patrick Sohn, Evan participated in several music competitions as a soloist and received recognitions including first place in the 2025 American Protege International Competition, first place in the Spring 2025 Charleston International Competition, as well as second prize winner for the Vivo (Spring 2025) International Music Competition. Evan was invited to several NMEA All County Festivals and represented his high school to perform in the Long Island String Festival Association’s 2024 Chamber Festival.

Besides the classical music repertoire, Evan also enjoys playing in the pit orchestra for his high school’s adaptations of popular operas and broadway shows such as Carmen and Beauty and the Beast.

Evan is attending John L. Miller Great Neck North High School and lives with his parents in Great Neck, New York.
